Hello Families!

Wow, what amazing progress the students have made in the past couple of months. The children’s reading is really improving. They have all improved in both their reading level and the number of sight words they can read automatically.  Please continue to read with your child daily.  One of the main indicators of literary success is if the child is read with and to daily. Report cards will be coming home in a few weeks.

We had so much fun on Read Across America Day. We read all day in our pajamas, and the children were also able to read to our fourth grade buddies. The children are really enjoying the Dr. Seuss books, and learning a lot about rhyming and creativity!

Our current theme is Springtime Magic. We had a lot of fun creating castles, reading fairy tales, and drafting our own fairy tale ideas this week. We will continue with the writing process to create wonderfully imaginative fairy tales of our own in the coming days. Additionally, I am sending home an assignment for your first grader to try to design and build a leprechaun trap by Wednesday, March 16th.  We will be trying to catch these pesky little critters on St. Patrick's Day the following day.

Our next Science unit will be Tahoe Animals and Plants. We will be raising our own Lahontan Cutthroat Trout eggs. It will be exciting to watch them develop into fingerlings, and we will (hopefully) release them in a couple of months. We will also be learning about Black Bears, Yellow Legged Mountain Frogs, Rattlesnakes, and Bald Eagles. Please let me know if you have any special knowledge or artifacts dealing with native Tahoe plants or animals which you are willing to share.

¡Hola familias!

¡Wow, qué progreso increíble que los estudiantes han hecho en los últimos dos meses! La lectura de los niños está realmente mejorando. Todos ellos han mejorado tanto en su nivel de lectura y el número de palabras de uso frecuente pueden leer automáticamente. Por favor, continúe leyendo con su hijo todos los días. Uno de los principales indicadores del éxito literario es si el niño se lee con todos los días. Las boletas de calificaciones serán vuelven a casa en unas pocas semanas.

Nos divertimos mucho en la Read Across America Day. Leemos todo el día en pijamas, y ​​los niños también pudimos leer a nuestros compañeros de cuarto grado. ¡Los niños realmente están disfrutando de los libros del Dr. Seuss, y ¡aprendiendo mucho acerca de las rimas y la creatividad!

Nuestro tema ahora es la Magia de la Primavera. Hemos tenido un montón de diversión creando castillos, leyendo cuentos de hadas, y la redacción de nuestras propias ideas de cuentos de hadas esta semana. Vamos a continuar con el proceso de escritura para crear cuentos de hadas maravillosamente imaginativas de nuestro propio en los próximos días. Además, estoy enviando a casa una misión para su niño de primer grado para tratar de diseñar y construir una trampa de duende hasta el miércoles, 16 de marzo. Estaremos tratando de atrapar a estos pequeños duendes molestos el siguiente día.

Nuestra siguiente unidad de las Ciencias será Animales y Plantas de Tahoe. Estaremos cuidando a nuestros propios huevos Lahontan Cutthroat Trout. Será emocionante ver a convertirse en alevines, y (esperemos) pongan en libertad en unas meses. También estaremos aprendiendo acerca de los osos negros, ranas de montaña de patas amarilla, serpientes de cascabel, y águilas calvas. Por favor, hágamelo saber si usted tiene cualquier conocimiento o artefactos especial relativo a las plantas nativas Tahoe o animales que usted está dispuesto a compartir.
